Many
friends of the Norwegian Church in New York has had the
pleasure of listening to the wonderful voice of soprano
Kristin Mulders
on several occations in New York. We are happy to announce
that she is coming back to perform a concert - and this
time she brings with her the gifted pianist Irene
Simonsen. The concert will take place on March
8 at 7 pm - on the International
Women's Day. They will perform songs by the well-known
Norwegian composer Edvard
Grieg and the exciting contemporary American
composer William
E. Bolcom. He has received a lot of awards
and is named 2007 Composer of the Year" by Musical
America. We welcome you all to a evening of classical music
performed by two emerging, young artists from Norway in
a intimate an close-up setting. Admission is free! Notes
on the program will be announced soon.
About
the artists:
Kristin
Mulders (b. 1978) from Norheimsund in Hardanger,
Norway, holds a mastersdegree in vocal performance from
the Grieg Academy in Bergen. Kristin has appeared as a soloist
with, among others, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Lately
she has been a part of Troldhaugen's summerconcert series,
Stavanger Concerthall's series "Sommer i Bjergsted",
and did an entire series on Grieg and Ole Bulls music together
with Trio Femine in Korskirken, Bergen, last summer. As
an experienced singer of classical church music, Kristin
has also held several solo performances at the Norwegian
Seamen’s Church in New York, and has appeared on Norwegian
radio and television.
Plenty
of technique and surplus energy was found with the mezzosoprano
Kristin Mulders. She has a beautiful and well cared-for
voice, natural stage charm, and impressed us in both Bernstein’s
”I am easy assimilated”, and maybe particularly
in ”Una voce poco fa”– Rosina’s
demanding aria from The Barber of Seville. (Bergens
Tidende, April 2005)
Kristin
Mulders, a gifted, young and gorgeous mezzosoprano from
Hardanger, is back in NYC for a month […] She was
one of the singers who performed at the 125th anniversary
concert, and should be heard by more here. (Norway
Times, New York, October 2003)
Irene
Simonsen (b. 1974), Pianist from Fitjar on the
island of Stord, Norway. Irene is active in the Bergen region’s
musical scene. She masters various genres and is an experienced
accompanist for both choirs and soloists. Irene also performs
as a soloist herself, and previous concert venues include
Edvard Grieg’s home, Troldhaugen, the Grieg Conference
in Munstern, Germany, and the Barony of Rosendal.
Simonsen
followed the singer so closely that we almost forgot she
was there, because the piano and the song became a beautiful
whole which lifted the songs in a wonderful way. Irene Simonsen
also demonstrated what we have come to learn about her,
a special gift to bring out the lyricality and sensitivity,
and at the same time enough temperament to master the forte
parts. (Sunnhordland, August 2002)
