The
Norwegian Seamen’s Church
proudly presents
KG
SINGERS
in
Concert
Easter
Sunday, April 11th 2004, we cordially invite you to a
concert we very much look forward too. "KG Singers"
is the 68-voice Concert Choir of Kristelig Gymnasium,
Oslo, Norway. Our school, the largest parochial school
in Norway, is owned and operated by the Norwegian Lutheran
Mission organizations. The choir, consisting of selected
students from the 2nd and 3rd "gymnasium" classes,
is widely known in Norway where it has presented several
half-hour TV specials. They have also recorded several
CDs. Each year the choir presents a large Christmas concert
to a sell-out crowd at the Oslo Konserthus, Norway’s
most prestigious concerthall. They have previously visited
the USA twice and the Baltic countries.
"KG
Singers' " repertoire of Scandinavian, European,
and English choral music represents a broad specter of
tastes from early Renaissance to contemporary music, both
sacred and secular. In addition to the choir, the 20-member
"English Handbell Choir", the only handbell
choir in Norway, will be performing.
William
C. Spade, director, originally from Elkhart, Indiana,
has headed the choral department since 1967. He has his
Masters from Ball State University, and has also studied
at the University of Oslo and the Royal Conservatory of
Music in Stockholm. He has taught music pedagogy at the
University of Oslo. In addition he served for 35 years
as organist at Betlehem Evangelical Free Church in Oslo.
As bass soloist he has traveled extensively in Europe
with the "Norwegian Soloist Choir", recently
crowned the top European choir.
