25 October 2007, 7 p.m.
The
acclaimed Norwegian baritone Ørjan Hartveit
joins forces with pianist Daniela Candillari
in Northern Light – a recital at the Norwegian Seamen’s
Church in New York celebrating the genius of Edvard Grieg
and his influence on contemporary and future generations
of composers. Photos by Ingerid Jordal
will be exhibited/projected during the concert.
Grieg’s
unique combination of Romanticism and folklore, which has
inspired composers of different nationalities, will be at
the heart of the program, while a specially commissioned
installation by Norwegian art photographer Ingerid Jordal
depicting the dramatic scenery in Hardanger – a major
source of inspiration for Grieg – will be featured
simultaneously with the performance of the 12 Settings of
A. O. Vinje Op. 33 (including famous songs such as The Last
Spring and At Rondane). Northern Light was premiered in
Hardanger in July in conjunction with the 100th anniversary
of the death of Edvard Grieg.
