Who
could be better qualified to write a new fairy tale than a
real princess? Drawing from the childhood experiences of her
grandfather, King Olav V, Norway’s Princess Märtha
Louise has written an enchanting, humorous tale about a little
boy who becomes a prince in her first children’s book,
Why Kings and Queens Don’t Wear Crowns.
Olav is excited about his own little throne and crown, but
finds that it is quite boring to sit on the throne all day.
When he starts to make a fuss, he is sent out to play with
other children to find out what they do for fun. As one might
expect, wearing a crown while building snowmen, racing down
slopes on a sled, and going ski jumping causes some serious
problems! When the royal crown is finally sent away for safe
keeping, all agree that the crown on your head, after all,
is just for decoration. The crown that matters most is the
one you wear in your heart.
The story is whimsically illustrated by Svein Nyhus,
recipient of numerous coveted awards in Norway, and nominee
of the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award.
