Shabana
Rehman, a 30 year old Norwegian of Pakistani
descent, is a professional comedian and writer. She
entered the stage in Oslo, Norway in 1999. In the
following years, she quickly built a reputation for
groundbreaking and iconoclastic comedy. Her controversial
and highly popular comedy style, along with well debated
public stunts, have given Shabana a unique position
in her native Norway and in Scandinavia. She is today
of one of the most popular and famous comedians in
the region. |

And
word has spread far beyond Europe. Among substantial international
press cover, she has been featured both by The New York
Times and by Time
Magazine.
In
addition to her prolific comedy career, Shabana is a highly
respected public speaker, columnist and satirist, regularly
writing for major newspapers and magazines in the region.
A frequent participant and contributor in talkshows and
public debates, she is among the most highly respected celebrities
in Norway. Shabana has received several awards for her comedy
and writing, notably the prestigious Norwegian Freedom Of
Speech Award, and Denmark´s Freedom Of Print Award.
Her comedy, statements, and stunts, have all instigated
massive public debates. In Scandinavia, this has been referred
to as the Shabana-debate. Her one-woman-shows have played
for full houses in several countries, among them Norway,
Denmark, Iceland , and the Faroe Islands. Recently she has
had guest performances in Canada, and Germany, performing
in German. Shabana is multilingual, fluent in Norwegian,
Urdu, and English.
In
2006 Shabana joined American Comedy Institute in New York
where she is currently working on a new show for the American
audience. We
are happy that she will come to the Norwegian Church in
New York to perform and hope that many will take the opportunity
to experience this funny and controversial comedian on Tuesday
Jan 16 at 7 pm.
