The Norwegian Seamen's Church and The Swedish Church in New York presents
In Praise of Slowing Down
- a seminar about
The Promise of an Unhurried Life

Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 from 11 - 3 pm at the Norwegian Seamen's Church

New York is one of the busiest cities in the world. The pace in Manhattan is extremely high, which can be both fascinating and exhausting. Yet, the need for stillness and deep seriousness, just as for joy of life and aimless strolling about, seems to be greater than ever. This need for slowness is in focus when we invite to a evening seminar with Owe Wikström. He is coming over to New York from Sweden to talk to us about the Promise of an Unhurried Life. Among the questions to be discussed are: What happens to a person who has to be effective all the time? Why do so many people talk about 'taking it easy' - just to rush on a minute later? Do we live too fast? Do we work too much? Are we aware of the Promise of an Unhurried Life?

Owe Wikström is a Professor of Religious Psychology at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. He has written 15 books; about J.S. Bach, Dostojevskij, psycho therapy, meditation among other things. When his book 'Långsamhetens lov' (The Promise of an Unhurried Life) was pubished in 2001 it became a bestseller - in Sweden and Norway as well as in other countries. It has been translated into 5 languages, but has not yet been published in the US!

Dont miss this exclusive opportunity to meet a charismatic and thought provocing lecturer up close and in an intimate setting.
