Horses of Rosmersholm
created and performed by 8 students of
the Askepott Theatre in Grimstad, Norway
Directed by Lars Arstad
The
Norwegian Seamen's Church, 317 East 52nd street
Monday October 2, 2006
This
performance, based on Rosmersholm by Henrik Ibsen,
is produced by The Askepott Theatre (The
Cinderella Theatre) - a music theatre for children and young
adults in Grimstad, Norway. The Askepott Theatre has performed
at international festivals in France, Holland, Denmark,
England and Italy - and now finally they will come to the
United States with this adaptation of Ibsen's famous play.
The production is directed by Lars Arstad
who participated as a finalist in the national Ibsen competition
for High Schools in Norway in 2003. The play was then performed
at the National Theatre in Oslo.
This
version of Rosmersholm is based on that production
and is supported by the secretariat for Ibsen Year 2006.
The
play is performed by 8 young and talented students from
the southern Norway - who also have participated actively
in the creation of the musical expression.
The
name of the play - White Horses of Rosmersholm
- is taken from Ibsens 'working title' for the drama; White
Horses. It emphasizes the superstitious elements of
Rosmersholm - represented by the White Horses who
carry a message of a death. Besides this - and the fact
that some of the characters are taken from the play, this
perfomance is freely created - its very physical and there
is just small pieces of dialogue. Every scenic element and
places are established by the actors.
